Replies to new Met users!From: Libby (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 20 Aug 2001 12:22:50 -0500 (CDT)
I have been on Met for 3 weeks. I am up to 1000 mg per day 500mg with breakfast and 500mg at dinner. I have had no side effects. The first day I had loose stools - but now am more constipated. I feel very good! Much better than I did without it. I have lost about 8 pounds and the fluid retention I had is drastically reduced. I do follow a low-carb diet - but nothing as strict as Atkins. Most PCOSers have energy issues. Atkins is hard on the kidneys and some carb gives us energy. I suggest that you lay off bread - maybe 1 piece of diet bread for the fiber. It's 7 grams of carbs. Lay off potatoes totally and sugar, with the exception of fresh fruit - which we also need for the anti-oxidants and fiber they provide. I eat a lot of salad - with eggs, bacon, ham and bacon bits on top. No carrotts or tomatoes. Very high in sugar. On my fruit list I eat all types of berries, watermelon and cantelope. Leave apples, pineapple, bananas and oranges alone as they are high in sugar. Drink tons of water - it helps metabolize the Met and reduce fluid retention. No rice or pasta. You can buy low carb pasta (if you are a pasta addict) on the following websites (along with sugar free candies, low carb bread and tons of other great treats. If finances are an issue - ask for these things for gifts - you'd be surprised how much you'll enjoy them. The are a little more expensive than regular off the shelf groceries. http://www.carbsmart.com http://www.thelowcarbconnoisseur.com http://www.lowcarboutfitters.com Remember to remover the fiber count from the carb count to get a real count of usable carbs. I'm not sure that sugar in the diet (in the form of a little low carb fruit or veggies) would cause bad reactions to Met. I don't have bad reactions and I definately get in my servings of fruit and veggies every day.
