Rumika, Yasmin (just released in the US market) is supposed to be very good for PCOS sufferers because it has a low progesterone component coupled with anti-androgens (drioperone) and thus is not supposed to cause weight gain, mood swings or acne. chech out http://www.yasmin.com for more information--it's a very detailed website that will probably answer your questions better than i can. because Yasmin is so new, i can't take it because my insurance doesn't cover it yet. SO, i take Orthocept which has a low progesterone component and it works fine for me. up until 4 months ago i was (naively) taking ortho-tricyclen and had wild mood swings and yucky acne breakouts. then i started seeing a new repro endo who specializes in PCOS and he promplty took me off of those (triphasic pills are terrible for PCOSers) and the symptoms subsided significantly. luckily, things have changed a lot since the 70s/early 80s and almost all of the pills out there now are low progesterone and are geared towards not causing horrible breakouts or bloating, so you'll have a lot to choose from. unfortunately and fortunately, different things work for different people.... you might have to try a few things to see what's right for you. remember, BCPs do not fix PCOS. they merely mask the symptoms and cause your uterine lining to shed (which, indeed, is important since if it didn't your chances of uterine cancers would increase significantly). in any case, good luck!
