Re: PCOS-MEDICATION digest 542From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 17 Aug 2001 07:11:44 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Michelle, My name is Linda, I have been on glucaphage for a year and 2 months 2000mg, 1000mg in the am and 1000mg in the pm, in addition I was on spironolactone 100 mg aday. My doctor just took me off of everything, due to four emergency room in a week: symptoms were rapid heart rate ,low oxygen, dizziness, shakes, dirrehea, fatigue. I also exercise for an hour 5 days a week, and was not not losing weight. Prior to the attacks I was showing great inprovement of my skin(acne and hair growth) problems. since I have been off the meds. I still experiencing anxiety, dizziness and on occasion the shakes, overall yuk feeling very tired and I was afraid of kidney damage. I heat seems to be getting the best of me also, hot flashes and chills. I don't know what the next step is for me yet. But those panic attacks, might just be a reaction to the meds. The attacks I had came 2 1/2 to 4 hours after eating, mine started with a reaction to pineapple, stay away from itand gluco. Now anytime I eat any refined starch I start with the shakes. If you can keep a log of what you are eating along with the exact time of your panic attack you might be able to prove it was the meds and not you. According to the glymeric(sp) index it takes about 3 hours for refined starches to hit your system, the glucophage doesn't seems to won't tolerate things like white breads, pasta etc. that's what I have found out so far. hope this gives you a direction to head in. Linda
