Hi Alison, Just to put in some points on the other side of this story, while I was on Met, I got the diarrhea and nausea after taking the very first pill. I was so sick that I practically lived in the bathroom. This, again, was after my first pill--and it only took a short while for it to kick in. I don't know about this vitamin B6 deal, because my Dr. never mentioned it to me at all, but if you're going to try it, try it with this vitamin (don't know if you can get it OTC or not though), and see what happens. My complications with Met lasted nearly 2 full months---and with several episodes a day for every day, I ended up in ER and had to be taken off it. The bottom line is, not everyone responds the same way. The first responder says she's never had a problem with Met---then again, you have to consider that she's only taking 500 mg a day--once a day. That's a pretty low dosage of Met to be on continuously. You can try that route for a bit, but if your symptoms continue, even with the B6, I would stop taking it. It took my body about 2 weeks to start getting off the symtpoms of the Met after I stopped taking it completely. You may want to consider that too, if you do decide to stop taking it so you can enjoy your trip. Personally, if it were me, considering the symtpoms, I wouldn't start taking it till after your trip. But that's just me and knowing how my body reacts to medications. I have a very sensitive body, and yours may not be so wimpy. lol Take into consideration what you know about the Met and it's side effects and think of how your body reacts to medications and make your own decision. Everyone is different, so there really is no "rule of thumb" on this one. I hope you enjoy your trip and pray that you won't find the side effects to the Met as terrible as I did.
