Hi karen, Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!! You might want to discuss with your doctor about taking metformin while pregnant even though Most doctors still frown on taking anything while pregnant you still need to let him know what your doing. Please be sure to take PLENTY of folic acid as I have read in the Dr Thatcher book that Metformin depletes folic acid thus causing neural tube defects (spina bifida). This can be prevented by taking extra folic acid.I would ask my Doctor what a safe amount of folic acid and metformin would be as too much of a good thing can be bad.My doctor has already advised me that he will only keep me on an insulin sensitizer through the first 8 weeks of pregnacy then will monitor my progesterone levels to make sure they do not fall as this is a common reason for PCOSers to have first trimester pregnancy loss. Sounds like you have a lot to discuss with your OBGYN. Good luck to you and your baby!!Dona
