ProgesteroneFrom: Muriel (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 27 Jul 2001 23:01:06 -0700
Hello all, I am currently un-diagnosed, or self-diagnosed with PCOS, and I have an appointment Aug. 13 to actually officially be diagnosed. A while ago, with a previous OB/GYN, I was prescribed progesterone for a week befor going on clomid. Now I've always had pretty regular periods, unlike a lot of women here, so I didn't quite understand the need to induce a period but I went along with it. I'm the last person to be afraid to pop any ol mysterious pill in my mouth (too much info?). Anyways, for that one single week while on progesterone, I was a completely new woman. I was full of energry that I never knew was there, I was up-beat, not depressive, and for the first time I actually WANTED to move my muscles instead of plop my butt on the sofa. To move and stretch my muscles around felt good for the first time, instead of tiring it was energising. I lost nearly 10 pounds that week, people. The only side effect I had was hot flashes, and I didn't even find them too uncomfortable, they were rather pleasant. SO, I called up my now former OB/GYN and told his nurse (he wasn't available) that the progesterone was like a miracle drug for me, and where can I get more? She told me flatly that the only time it's prescribed is to induce a period, and that it's not sold over the counter in any form, and i'm SOL. Does anyone know if its possible to get like a lifetime supply of progesterone? Or has anyone here been able to take it without inducing a period? Does it always induce periods? How can it be bad for you if it's natural to your body, and that I am apparently deficient in the hormone? Thanks in advance Muriel Montgomery
