I am hoping someone can help me, a doctor or any body who has PCOS. I am 21 years old and live in Australia. About 4 years ago I was sent to an endocrinologist for having no periods or very irregular ones. I was 13 when I started menstruating but by the time I was 17 I had only had about 15 periods. I was also quite overweight and had excess hair. I also suffered from nauseating fainting spells. The endo ran some blood tests and apparently they were normal, or there may have been an issue with LH/FSH levels. I also had a CT scan that was normal. He prescribed me with a low calorie diet and sent me away. This went on for about two years. I happen to go to a female GP for an unrelated manner and she asked me if I had ever been diagnosed with PCOS. I said no, and explained that I was seeing an endo and he had never mentioned it. She said with my symptoms it was likely that I had PCOS. She sent a letter to the endo saying I probably had PCOS and for him to test me and prescribe me medication. He ran no further blood tests or anything. He just started with Diane-35, but that only gave me periods, it did nothing for the other symptoms. Then I tried Cyprone, but that did nothing either. Then I tried Spironolactone, which I am currently still taking. I have been on it for about 4 months, at 3 a day and there is absolutely no effect. I have only recently had some more blood test which were apparently normal. Incidently I have never been tested for Insulin Resistance, only blood sugar levels. I have asked him to do so, and have also asked him to prescribe me Metformin, but he refuses. I have also never had an ultrasound to check for cysts on my ovaries. So the result is 4 years after starting to see him and 2 years after being diagnosed by another doctor, I am without periods, very hairy especially on the face and am very, very obese. If someoneone out there can give me some advice about what to do next or who to turn to next, I would be so very grateful. P.S. Thanks for reading this long post!!!
