Hi Jennifer.  I am 27. I was diagnosed with pcos when I was 24. I have a three and a half year old daughter. pcos sucks to put it plainly, but you may be able to have kids. Some women with this can conceive, while there are others that have trouble conceiving . I have known that something was wrong with my body since I was 21. The black hairs on my stomach started first along with irregular periods. The pounds started creepin on. All around my middle. Hair on my head was steadily thinning. Acne started becoming a real issue. Then, black hair started growing above my lip, and I would find stray hairs on my chin. All very womanly.  I had my daughter at 24. I wanted to get pregnant becuz I had very irregular periods and was becoming terrified that I would not be able to get preg. SO, I got some natural progesterone cream and started rubbing it on according to Dr. Christiane Northup in her book. I also took my temp before getting out of bed to find out when i was ovulating (if I was at all). I got pregnant almost immediately.  A blessing. After my pregnancy, it was impossible to lose weight. pcos symptoms were worse than ever. At the end of nmy preg, I weighed 169.  I lost most of my preg weight and went down to the 140's. But couldnt lose anymore. At the end of the same year my dr. finally diagnosed me with pcos.( Thru out my early 20's I weighed from 110 - 130's. ) No matter how much exercise i did and how much weight watchers i did the weight would not come off. My dr. put me on spiro for hair and acne issues and birth control pills. This helped somewhat but the weight was getting ridiculus, not to mention depression and wanting to sleep around the clock(AND A NEW BABY)  In the fall of 1999 after losing 4 lbs. on the famed weight watchers, I started glucophage 1500 mg a day. It is july 25th, 2001, and I now weigh 124 lbs. I'm psyched, but taking all these pills sucks. My hope is that really soon we find the cause and then we can supplement with one pill. There is light at the end of the tunnel of darkness. So, keep your head up girl. My name is heidi. Email me @anonymous@obgyn.net
