Re: spironolactoneFrom: Joanna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 18 Jul 2001 20:33:15 -0500 (CDT)
Kate, Dr. Sam is absolutely correct. My doctors(!) have warned me extensively to stop taking sprinolactone when trying to conceive and especially when you become pregnant. Like the birth control pill, I have always heard it is ideal to stop taking these prescriptions a few months before trying to conceive. I say live with the acne, if possible, or talk to your doctor about a safe and effective treatment while pregnant. Dr. Sam: Would taking Metformin (as part of a fertility treatment), which I understand is suppose to induce periods, help with the acne? If you are having regular periods, perhaps your hormones are more normalized? I suspect the excess testosterone contributes to the acne?
