Paula,

I've been taking Glucophage for two years in order to treat PCOS. Before Glucophage, I had gone almost a year with no period at all. I have also been trying to conceive ten months now & have not had any luck yet. Took Clomid for a few months to try & bring on ovulation. Anyway, about the side effects, you will have some bowel trouble for maybe the first month. I went through the same thing and have currently switched over to Glucopahge XR. It didn't make me tired though, in fact, I can't take it at night, because it keeps me up. I usually take it in the morning at 500mcg. I am still contemplating on whether I should take the Glocophage or the XR. I also take thyroid medicine to treat my hypothyroidism. This high insulin level may be a key! Now how would a person go about correcting a high insulin level? It seems that almost everyone I talk to is also suffering from the exact same symptoms. There has to be a key to this hormonal imbalance. I was told a couple years ago that pregnancy is the best cure for PCOS, but so far, no baby. Hopefully I've helped you in some way and please share any info that you come across. Thanks, Alene
