SHBGFrom: Carol (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 16 Jul 2001 15:17:16 -0500 (CDT)
Does anyone know if injections of SHBG are a future possibility? I am one of those people who can't take the BCP or estrogen due to migraines so this PCOS is running wild. From all my research, I have learned that SHBG is an extremely important yet little known protein. Low SHBG is linked with insulin resistance related disorders (PCOS and diabetes) and also with depression (sound familiar to anyone?!). The same neurotransmitters are involved in depression and diabetes. Apparently, SHBG needs to be in balance - having too much of this protein is linked to increased risk for osteoporosis. So, at least one small mercy in this hell that we suffer is that we might be at a lower risk for bone density problems. I've learned more but that's enough for now. Can anyone add to my knowledge about SHBG? Perhaps a docor even.
