Kari, I know exactly how you feel. I am so incredibly frustrated with Glucophage right now. I had the expected side effects when I first went on it a year ago. I knew it would take my body a while to adjust to the meds. And the side effects did go away for a while, but lately they have come back worse than ever. My digestive system is extremely sensitive - there are very few foods that I can eat that don't make me vomit and/or get diarrhea. I am tired all the time, I have to take antidepressants for anxiety, and it's almost impossible for me to find food that appeals to me. Meal time for me is a stressful event - "Will I be able to choke this down without puking? If so, will I get diarrhea 30 minutes from now?" And because I'm about 99% vegetarian, imagine trying to come up with a meal that I can tolerate AND is high protein-low carb. Forget it! My endocrinologist is a huge supporter of Glucophage, and he hasn't even told me about any drug alternatives, but it sounds like the other choices might end up giving me the same symptoms! Have you considered looking into natural treatments that might be less harsh? I'm starting to explore that possibility, but I don't really know where to start looking. Keep us updated on what your doc suggests, and good luck!
