How can I get a good specialist in the United Kingdom?

My specialist really has not got a clue about which treatment to give me.

He didn't even comment on the fact I was nearly 5 stone overweight on our first consultation.

He is an endocrynologist (spelling?)

How can I get to see someone who knows what they are talking about?

Is there any one I can see privately?

I live in the West Yorkshire area.

How can I find if there is another specialist in my local infirmary? Can I just ring up the hospital and ask?

Sorry about the "20 questions".....
