PCOS WITH ELEVATED DHEA LEVELFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 2 Jul 2001 12:35:55 -0500 (CDT)
Hello Everyone, I am wondering if any of you could offer some advice. I have PCOS with an elevated DHEA Level. (also elevated testosterone and free testosterone) I have been on Metformin (2000 mg per day) since last fall, and in March, started Dexamethasone with the hopes of suppressing the DHEA. My bloodwork was just repeated, and nothing has changed! I am overweight, but have also lost 21lbs since starting the Dexamethasone, and eating low carbs with exercise. They have also ruled out an adrenal gland tumor. My doctor has increased the Metformin to 3,000 mg a day, and the Dexamethasone to .75 I was told that I would not respond to fertility drugs unless my DHEA is under control (it is 735). We are only trying this for one month, and then possibly trying Lupron? Has anyone had a similar situation...I don't seem to be responding to the typical treatments for this...any advice would be appreciated!!
