I, too have severe itching, but mine is relatively localized (to my upper back and scalp). I have no eczema or raised or odd skin patches that would lead one to think about itching conditions. It came on very quickly and I've not been on met for more than one year now. The only medication to contain it is Zyrtec, which is why I love it. I take Zyrtec year-round for my allergies (both indoor and outdoor). When I'm not on it, my itching is tremendous and when I scratch, I get red welts where I've scratched. I'm told that's the way extra histamine in my system shows up. Did you have the itching while on the Zyrtec? If not, talk to your dr about continuing the medication and ask him/her about urticaria (the technical term for generalized severe itching).
