>I recently saw a TV Ad for this "Chitosol" pill that supposedly works by
absorbing fat (whether stored fat, like most of us have due to IR, or fat that you're eating).<

This pill "absorbs" the fat that we eat, not that we have stored. Fat cells are predominantly water, so it would hard (impossible?) for a pill to absorb what we already have stored in us.

I am highly sceptical of these claims; remember the drug called "Xenical"? It, too, absorbs some of the fat in foods we eat, but it had a nasty little side effect the label liked to call "inadvertent rectal leaking." Really gross, but it basically meant that whatever fat you ingested was going out--quickly!!--and you might not be able to control it. I suspect it's the same concept as this "CHitosol" stuff. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. And because it's not controlled by the FDA (i.e., been through clinical trials, etc.), they can claim just about anything as long as they use the standard disclaimer. If it *was* the miracle they claimed it was, don'tcha think everyone would be jumping on this bandwagon and the news would be everywhere? Phen-Fen was like that--it was touted as a miracle (went through abbreviated FDA clinical trials), prescribed, and supposedly EVERYONE was taking it.

I know it's frustrating, but hang in there. You are not alone. I've had some pretty decent success with Weigh Down, as have some other women on this board. It's a very balanced program that puts food in its place in our lives--helps us not to be preoccupied with every bite or every calorie and morsel. Even though pg, I can still do this "program," (although now it's a lifestyle), and I've not gained weight yet--I'm hoping to "trade" more of me for the baby, if that makes sense. Anyhow, it's very safe and my RE doesn't approve of many diets, but he gave the thumbs up to this one.
