Re: Glucophage XR and alcohol don't mix!!From: Zowie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 24 Jun 2001 19:31:36 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Laura, When I was on Met (brand name of Gluco), the pill bottle had a sticker (plus written info.) that clearly said to not drink alcohol when taking this medication. Why on earth would your Dr. not inform you of this?? You should definitely avoid alcohol when taking this medication (especially since it's the extended release, meaning it goes through your blood stream ALL day---haven't you ever heard of NOT drinking with your pills?--that's why, it's very dangerous). Please be more careful and I would suggest you contact your Dr about him/her not disclosing that to you. You should have at LEAST gotten some info. about this from the Pharmacist----I'm quite shocked that no one informed you of this. Something worse could have happened to you and you had no warnings. Makes me nervous there are Dr's and Pharmacists out there not telling their patients of well known warnings on the medications they are giving. For further info, or to look at info on other meds--I suggest http://www.rxlist.com, it even has drug interactions and side effects listed. You may want to check it out.
