Re: glucohageFrom: suek (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 24 Jun 2001 09:52:51 -0500 (CDT)
I got this diet from a dietician. I had been told some incorrect info about diet restrictions, from all places - a doctor. This diet is easy to follow and works well for me, but it may not be great for everyone. Basically it is a high fiber, low fat, low sugar diet. But according to the dietician you don't have to absolutely avoid carbs and sugar, as I was told before. The type of carbs is the key. As long as they are high in fiber and you eat them with protein and veggies it's ok. I only eat whole wheat bread and pasta (for bread at least 3 grams of fiber per slice), whole grain brown rice, cereal with at least 5 grams of fiber and 3 grams of fat or less per serving. Also, I eat 4-5 times a day. So I have cereal and a piece of fruit for breakfast, a sandwich made of lean meat (low fat cheese and mayo are ok) and a salad for lunch, a snack of fruit and cottage cheese or low fat cheese and whole wheat triscuits, and dinner is some kind of lean protein, a starch, and veggies. My key with dinner is not eating everything I have cooked! So I use the Chinette plate mentality (partitioned plates). I put my veggies in the largest section, protein and starch equally in the other two sections. The thing is, with this much fiber and food throughout the day, I am not that hungry. Plus the Glucophage makes me feel sick enough that I don't want to eat more. I suppose that's a plus?! This may not seem like rocket science, but I had been told to follow Sugar Busters by a doctor, and that is a terrible diet. Good luck and I hope this works for you. Thanks for the info on Glucophage.
