Re: Avandia??From: Zowie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 17 Jun 2001 12:29:44 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Maddy, I'm on Avandia and let me tell you--I will NEVER go back to Metformin/Glucophage! I don't have ANY problems with it--except that it does lower your blood sugar, so you need to be sure to eat it with food, or eat shortly after taking it. I'm taking 2 2mg pills a day--in the morning and at night. And I frequently wake up in the middle of the night with this "shaky" feeling--like I'm trembling, but I'm physically NOT. I'm also hypoglycemic and anemic---so with that combination, the Avandia is probably affecting me a little hard with the lower blood sugar levels than with a normal person. As for weight gain or loss---I have never heard of anyone using Avandia and losing weight because, or in combination with this pill. I HAVE, however, heard of people initially gaining a small amount (about 10 lbs. or so)--but I'm not sure WHY and I haven't noticed this myself. Bottom line is--everyone's body is different. Low carbing works for some--but I can't do it because it makes me sick. For some people, no matter HOW much they excercise and watch their diet--the weight just WON'T come off--and it's because of our IR and hormone imbalance. It affects us metabolicly. You just have to try and see what works for you. Everyone is different in that aspect of PCOS.
