Re: Dr SamFrom: Christa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 7 Jun 2001 22:44:06 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Dr. Sam-- I don't know anything about Provera and I've never thought of taking it. I'm still taking the Diane 35 (only for the skin really). Of course I'm still on 1500mg of glucophage. I did ask in one post how long the Diane takes to leave the system because I was wondering if an accidental pregnancy occured whether the baby would be exposed to birth defect even though the Diane was stopped as soon as conception was realized. I ask this because I have heard other women write that they became pregnant while taking the Diane. I heard one woman say she was told by the doctors to have an abortion because she was taking spironactone when she conceived and the baby might be born with birth defects if male. I know the Diane has an anti-androgen in it. Secondly, I've heard a lot of PCOS women talk about not having IR. They have been tested for it and they don't have it. Is it a proven fact that the underlying cause of PCOS is insulin resistance or is it more like speculation? I ask this because my test never confirmed IR as there was a mix up at the lab but my endo put me on the glucophage anyway. It did help with the weight but not with any other symptoms. Perhaps there is MORE to it than just IR? I don't know that the glucophage is the ultimate cure. What do you think of this? Thanks for listening.
