even for me doctor prescribed metformin with out checking insulin levels, saying met can be used to alleviate pcos symptoms even if you are not insulin resistant, I have been using met. since 4 months, but she asked me to start with 500mg per day and increase upto 1500mg per day(three times a day) so that our body will accustom to the dosage. so in my view we can start the met. straight away even if the insulin is not checked. hope this helps, Sujatha.
