I took only one dose of the drug, with a meal, the lowest possible dose. The side effects I did have included extreme fatigue, sleepiness, weakness, and delirium/confusion. I know some people experience drowsiness, but this was beyond drowsiness. I spent the entire day in bed, so sleepy that I'd wake for a moment, think to myself that I should try to get up, and fall back asleep before I even knew what happened. The hour or so I was able to drag myself out of bed was miserable. I felt so weak and disoriented that I could barely walk or stand. My husband and I tried to go to the grocery near our house, just as an excuse to get out and try to get going. I leaned heavily on the cart, and I felt exhausted trying to lift even a single can of vegetables. All I could think about was trying to get back home before I fell over (literally -- I felt like I was too weak to keep standing). Every muscle in my body felt like Jell-O. These symptoms came on shortly after I took the Glucophage, and subsided about the time it would have run its course and I would have been supposed to take the next dose. I thought it was rather strange, and I called my doctor. I trust my doctor, she is not a quack in any way. She said she wasn't sure what happened, but it did sound like it was from the drug, and I probably shouldn't try to take any more of it. If I had to put up with temporary side effects like the very common diarrhea-type symptoms, I could handle that. Immodium and I are old friends, anyway. I could deal with drowsiness and fatigue to some extent, but if I had to deal with it on the scale I had that day, I'd have to take off work for several weeks, and even then I'm not sure I could stand it, sleeping non-stop for several weeks. Who could? And even if I could put up with it, it felt WRONG. I trust my instincts to know when something feels just annoying and when it feels WRONG. And my doctor also felt it seemed wrong. So when people mention Actos and Avandia because they don't have the same side effects, I have to wonder if they mean simply the diarrhea. Because that wasn't really my problem. --Mel Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! Mail - only $35
