Couple of things that concern me. He has not properly tested you. If you have cysts, Gluc/Met can irritate them more. Gluc is ONLY for IR. Gluc is a Diabetics drug and is a strong drug. Another thing is, the starting dose is supposed to be 500 a day for the first week. 1000 mg the second week etc until desired dose. The 3x500 per day is common amoung those that take it but again, needs to be graduated to that point. Your doctor, IN MY OPINION, seems to be taking risks on YOUR behalf. If you don't feel comfortable taking it, listen to your gutt.

Lastly somethign to watch for: on my second week my teeth and gums began to hurt and bleed. It was a sign of liver detioration. It took me 6 months to get my levels back up. I can not take Gluc. I am the "under 1%" that this has happened to. So just be careful.
