Back on the wagonFrom: AdoptASAP (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 26 May 2001 07:24:12 -0500 (CDT)
Well, I've been almost 4 years without seeking treatments after taking a break. Testing starts all over again now. Fun Fun. Below is my story: At age 8 I started gaining weight, as my mom a former heavy wieght, took me to the doctors. Nothing. Two years later, I had my first dye job. LOL. They injected me with dye after fasting and watched what happened via sonar. (Just found out in 1997 ~~>) They discovered that I have a Double Collective System. (When you are in the womb, you have 2 tubes out of the kidney, they meld as one just before birth, mine did not do this. Its concidered an internal diformaty). At the age of 10 my depression began. I was an outcast at school and kids made fun. I started getting extra hair on my body by age 12. They told me that I would have a hard time getting pregnant and wanted to place me on BCP. Mom said no. I hadn't had my first menstraul until age 12, which is odd for my family. My next one was like clockwork every 4 months skipping summer. (Loved that part). I had been to the doctors more then twice a year about this growing up since the age of 10. Tried to get me to diet. Lost a lot of weight at Weight Watchers at age 12. Puberty blossomed and gained the weight back at 13. Age 15, Began to get more hairier, more depressed, and more friendless. 16 met my husband in another state. Came back home later that year and gained more weight and more hair. Age 17, decided to try the BCP. Married at 18, and very heavy. Day of marriage, ditched the pill and had a menstraul right away. Yes, on my honeymoon. :( Anyway, after no results of pregnancy, started to persue infertility treatments. Nothing worked after visiting 6 different doctors in a 4 year span. The first doctor I sought was in Illinois, and a quack. I can not say her name unfortunately. Dr. F sounded hopeful. She placed me on a provera shot. I bled terribly for 28 days. I was so sick and went to the hospital. They placed me on BCP for a month to make me "better". Found out later Dr. F had the highest hystorectomy rate in the U.S. The only way to correct her treatments (tx) is to take everything out. So, we moved on. Next doctor was a doctor that helped people on welfare. Helped?!?! Hah! Dr. T did my exam gloveless, I found out later. He never had a nurse present. Told me I was fat and to lay off of the mac and cheese. Of which I didn't eat. He too was in Illinois. I was recommended to him by a friend. I was not on welfare. Dr. T thought I was. Turns out he is a jerk to all that are on welfare. Had 27 lawsuits against him. Of course I didn't know this. I was 19 and was ashamed, depressed and felt worthless. This is the reason I did not report him. So, I moved on. Came back to Maine. Welcome Home!!! My mother got me back to my old doctor. Dr. Sanborn. She is just great. I love her. She has been my doc since I was 12. Everyone there is great. Treatment began again. I went to Dr. Altman, another fine lady. She placed me on Clomid and nothing happened. Increased my dosage from 50-150mg through-out the maximum of 6 months. Had to use provera to get menstrauls. My last month was a doozey. I was totally mental from the clomid. She did all she could and sent me to an Reproductive Endocronologist (RE). I didn't want to see any men since Dr. T. Had no choice in the matter. Saw Dr. Oppenhiem. A very nice fellow. He works under Dr. Spratt in the same building. Incidently, we had the best of both worlds. The Endocronologist was in the same building. Spratt was very knowledgeable of PCOS. Tried me on Glucophage, a.k.a. Metformin. 500mg for the first week, 1000mg the second week. Unfortunately, it deteriorated my liver. Signs of this were my teeth were sensative and bleeding. Couldn't brush or eat. Took me 6 months to get my levels back up. After that, they put me on Deltazone. It failed too. In July of 1997, I ended my infertility journey. March 1999 I started on the Study in Boston for PCOS and the D-Chiro-Inosotal pill. It was 13 weeks and ended Aug. 5th 1999. I can not reveal anything until the study is over, so please don't ask for details. The study should be over in 2000 and result released to the public.
