Re: Can Metformin stop ovulation?From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 16 May 2001 13:08:17 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Paula, on the contrary Met or any of the insulin sensitizers cause ovulation the majority of the time. Are you sure you didn't have high LH/FHS ratios that was giving you false postitives every month with your OPk's? I would continue testing maybe it was one of those months were you wouldn't have ovulated anyway and it is just coincidental. Annovulation is one of the big problems with PCOS and though you have Ovulated in the past you may have a cyst that formed instead this month...you did say that your ovaries appeared cystic on your Ultrasound...which means that you don't always ovulate. This may just be one of those months. Also just a slight elevation in insulin can cause cysts and androgen problems so I would keep on the metformin. Some doctors don't think a slight elevation is a problem but being one of those patients that only has slight elevations myself and considered within the normal range I know that it is still causing a BIG problem with my hormones. Hope this helps eleavate some of your fears, Dona
