Can Metformin stop ovulation?From: Paula (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 15 May 2001 21:45:53 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. Though most of the diagnostic tests, including fasting insulin and glucose, were normal my ultrasound confirmed that my ovaries were polycystic. I'm only slightly overweight (5'1", 130 lbs) but have real trouble losing weight. My only other symptom is slight excess body hair. But my periods have always been regular and last month's ultrasound confirmed that I do ovulate at least some of the time. BTW, I had a m/c last year and am 35 years old. My question is that since we are TTC, I take OPKs every month and always get a positive on day 14. But this month, I started Met on day 1 and have had no sign of a positive and I'm well past day 14. Could the Met be stopping my ovulation? Perhaps I shouldn't even be on Met since my insulin and glucose tests as well as androgen tests were all normal. Also, how could I have cysts on my ovaries when I have regular periods and a history of ovulation??? Any help would be appreciated. Pea
