Re: Artificial Sweeteners, Caffeine & Insulin ResistanceFrom: paula (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 8 May 2001 11:38:38 -0500 (CDT)
jodi, i think that you are right in there are probably more cases of PCOS now, than ever...but im not positive that it is based on the fact there are acutally more women with it, or that it is more diagnosed. since it seems to insulin resistance, and insulin resistance seems to be linked to a damaged insulin receptor, if we assume that PCOS = IR Damaged Gene, than it is likely there are more cases now. if the damage to the insulin receptor gene is a point mutation caused by a specific chemical, than it is even more possible there are more cases. but i do not believe that aspertame and caffene change insulin metabolism. the enzymes and receptors in our body are so specific...i can not fathom they would not be able to tell the difference between glucose and some other chemical. but that is just my reasoning. while i think its sound, im sure that i am not 100% correct lol love, paula
