Hi Christa,

I think we have discussed this earlier and this was the point where Annette joined in and nearly had blown up the board. So once again: medical prudence dictates that you treat the causes and not the symptoms of diseases. Therefore the causal treatment of PCOS are insulin sensitizers. I accept, that the hyperandrogen symptoms maybe so bad that some of you needs symptomatic relief of acne, hair etc. For this an antiandrogen is indicated. Antiandrogens are: cyproterone acetate, finasteride. As in some countries cyproterone acetate is not available, spironolactone is prescribed, which IS NOT AN ANTIANDROGEN per se. It is a diuretic with antiandrogen side-effects. But if you are on cyprot-ac already (Diane) no further antiandrogen is needed. Besides antiandrogens need some 3-6 mo to act, which further complicates to evaluate which medication helped you with which symptoms.
