Dexamethasone Suppression TestFrom: Christa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 4 May 2001 16:26:26 -0500 (CDT)
I was reading a book called The Good News About Women's Hormones and the author explains a lot of things related to PCOS as well as other androgen disorders. He mentions that one of the first things you should have done when an androgen disorder is suspected is have a "Dex Test". This test is done to discover how much androgens are coming from the adrenal gland and how much are coming from the ovaries. Apparently, the treatment is different according to which of the two is the culprit. I never had one done and now I'm thinking I should do it. Does anyone know if it can be done now that I'm on meds I'm on? Will it still show anything? The more I find out about all this the more pissed off I get that so many things were missed in my treatment. I have suffered the symptoms of PCOS for many many many years. I'm just aggravated. Any suggestions?
