Hi Lisa, I've seen posts for Prednizone on the boards before, but don't remember what it is or what it's for. However, there is a great site, http://www.rxlist.com , where you can look up different medications and get a WEALTH of information. After typing in the drug name, a list of matches will come up. Click on the link for the right one, and then you'll see a list of tabs, each with a different list of information. Just check it out and you'll find the info you're looking for. As far as other medications, that depends on how the PCOS is affecting you. We are all different. Many of us are Insulin Resistant due to the PCOS. If you are (blood tests will tell you), then you should be on an insulin sensitizer, such as Metformin (Glucophage), Avandia or Actos. The first is most common (will give you ovulatory cycles as well), but is also the worst when it comes to side effects (nausea, diarrhea, headaches and abdominal pain)--however, this doesn't occur in all patients, but if it does, it's SUPPOSED to subside in a few weeks. It didn't for me, and I'm on Avandia now. Again, these are INSULIN SENSITIZERS, and that is their strict function. Met MAY (and I stress the MAY) cause weight loss as a side effect, but again---it's not a guarantee (it's not even listed as a "side effect" of the drug). If you are TTC (trying to conceive), Clomid is the most common medication for that, but again, it depends on how the PCOS is affecting you and what you are looking to do. There is a search feature to this board where you can check on previous posts for information (so you don't have to post yourself and wait for a response), so check it out. Again, the website for medication info is http://www.rxlist.com
