I take 1500mg a day (1 pill 3x's a day). My RE's reason for the "ramping up" was to minimize the gastrointestinal upset glucophage can cause when a person first begins. I have been one of the lucky ones that hasn't had any side effects from it. All in all I've been happy with taking glucophage. Have a good one!
