hi christa

i really have no idea as to whether or not diane is a good pill in terms of how it affects insulin resistance.

does your dermatologist know that you are already taking aldactone? if he does, he shouldn't have recommended the diane, i think... so i am going to guess he doesn't know, and probab;y doesn't even suspect, since it's not available here!!

i admire your williness at obtaining it from overseas. i have no such contacts abroad...

ANYWAY. i am not surprised that orthotrycyclin didn't help your skin. i was thinking about this today... not about your skin, but about orthotricyclin.

who are the women most likely to have acne? women with PCOS.

what is the only BCP the FDA says is good for clearing up acne? orthtricyclin.

what is the pill women are therefore given for acne? orthotricyclin.

what is the worst BCP for women with PCOS? orthotricyclin. (it isn't good enough to surpress the dreaded cyst formation...)

so the women who are most likely to have acne are being given the pill that is worst for them. brilliant.

or am i wrong?? is orthocyclin the one that is approaved? i can't recall, and i might have just made myself look like an idiot. :)

ANYWAY. the truth is, any BCP that works for you should help with your acne. well, this is my feeling, at least. the pill shuts down ovarian production of testosterone, as i understand it... as long as the pill is working for you, it should help some with acne. so you should pick the pill that works best for you. i personally am taking mircette, but i have only been on it for about a week so i can't tell you what it's doing yet. i am thinking of stopping it, but that's due to my mental inability to handle the BCP. i have used other BCPs in the past - as well as the dreaded tricyclin... most helped with my skin, except for the week i was off of them. another pill i have heard is recomended for PCOS is allesse. i am not sure which others are good - you need one of the third generation pills, i believe, because the progesterone component of those is least likely to have androgenic effects.

so a pill that works for you, and is not bad for the IR, combined with Spiro, should be good.

how much spiro are you on, btw? i am not on it now, but i am going on it when my order comes in (i have to mail out prescriptions... what a pain....). in the past, i was on 200mg a day. i saw improvements in skin clarity in about a week and a half. i was on it for the hair, though... i started seeing a improvement in facial hair soon after but the spiro also caused me to have prolonged, heavy bleeding, which is why i went off it. that's the reason i am back on BCPs now... don't want that to happen..

have you considered maybe a higher dose of spiro and the met, and dropping the diane? unless you want the BCP for period regulation or birth control, well... you might not want to even bother with it. unless, of course, the spiro does to you what it did to me...

i don't know if this has been of any help at all... i'm sorry, but i really don't know how diane affects insulin resistance. but it seems that if acne is your main concern, aldactone and met might be enough, if you have enough aldactone.
