Re: Diane 35From: jodi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 27 Apr 2001 11:27:39 -0500 (CDT)
i tried to reply to this post yesterday but my answer hasn't shown up, so i'm gonna try again. i think that the reason many women report a worsening of their symptoms after being on Diane or any BCP can be explained two ways: 1. the meds work, and you get used to having clear skin. then you go off the meds and BAM! skin is back to it's basty old self. since you got used to having clear skin, it seems really bad in comparison... and you only THINK its worse than before. 2. since the BCPs only mask symptoms, and do nothing to treat the underlaying cause of PCOS - or in some cases, make those underlaying causes worse - you are getting more and more unhealthy under your smooth skinned surface without even realising it. so, when you go off the pill, your skin really does become worse, since your condition really has worsened while you were on the pill, or worsened because of the pill you were taking. since you are addressing the more pressing causes of PCOS with the met, maybe you won't see this worsening if/when you stop diane. i'll cross my fingers for you. :) BUT... isn't diane supposed to have an antiandrogen built in? isn't taking aldactone along with it a little overkill? of course, if diane were available in my country, i would not hesitate to take both meds as well... anything to get rid of this facial hair... - jodi
