Dr. SAM---2 questions =)From: paula (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Apr 2001 12:45:50 -0500 (CDT)
i am currently on 1500mg of glucophage per day. i started out with a fasting insulin of 47, after one year of the gluco, and losing nearly 80 pounds my insulin has dropped to 20, and all benefits of that drop are apparent. i am having regular periods and such. husband and i are trying to conceive. my question is this: will raising my dosage of glucophage to 2000mg per day have a substantial effect on further lowering my insulin, thereby aiding other hormones to regulate and allowing pregnancy to occur? i am having trouble getting my doctor to go along with raising dosage, if it would help, could you direct me to a study, or article that documents this? secondly, i am concerned about my progesterone level. the doc says there is no reason to test it now (unfortunately, i live in a very rural area, and do not have the option to change doctors, so i have to deal with the one i have) last time it was tested, it was a little low (sorry, i dont have the report here in front of me for exact numbers) but my concern is, if i do happen to get pregnant should i begin taking progesterone IMMEDIATELY? is there such a thing as too much progesterone? and what dosage and type of over the counter cream should i use? thanks a lot, i know this ended being a lot of questions...i appreciate you taking the time to help me =) love, paula
