Re: confused about ovulation v. periodsFrom: =?iso-8859-2?q?Zalányi Sámuel?= (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 26 Apr 2001 04:46:08 +0100 (MET DST)
Hi Tracy, Human body is a very complicated mechanism(?) and it doesn't work with the regularity of mechanical or electric devices. It is common wisdom that MENSTRUATION (menses) follows ovulation by 14 d. I have investigated several dozens of healthy women's cycles (and am familiar with hundreds of others published) by ultrasound and hormone measurments and about one of every 10 cycles is anovulatory with timely menses. Now the next problem is, there is no way to distinguish a uterine bleeding from a menses. And you can bleed anytime from your endometrium if it isn't properly supported by ovarian steroid hormones. There is an old wisdom among people familiar with RE: the only proof of ovulation is pregnancy! Hope this helps you understand this very difficult problem Sam
