To answer your question, Actos is an insulin sensitizer, as is Avandia and Glucophage. They are NOT prescribed for weight loss, they are strictly prescribed to help your insulin sensitivity. Please be advised that weight loss is only a side effect of these medications that does NOT occur in all people taking it. So do not automatically assume that you were given Glucophage for weight loss--that simply isn't the case. Also, low carbing doesn't work for all of us. Some people just can't tolerate that diet, others, regardless of how strict they are and how much they excercise will still see no results. It all depends on our bodies, as they are all different and individual. There is no "magic pill" for us "cysters"----although we ALL wish there was. Also realize that these medications can take up to 6 months to truly work, so depending on how long you've been on them---it may be too soon. Talk with your Dr. if it has been 2 months at least to find out what s/he expects of your condition at this time. Your medication can then be adjusted as needed; including dosage and different medications.
