Re: heavy period over 6 months and my weight wont move, depressed in PCOS hell!!From: anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Mar 2001 13:38:17 -0600 (CST)
Dear Sam, Thanks for your message. I have been counting cycles from the first day of my period to the first day of the next. I already know I'm not ovulating...I suspected it and the NP and Dr. confirmed it, though they can never do the day 21 progesterone test to check simply because I haven't had a cycle that long since Jan. I was diagnosed with PCOS because: 1. My twin sister has it. 2. Unexplained and rapid weight gain (about 40 lbs in less than a year). 3. I have menstrual irregularities. 4.I have scattered dark, coarse hair on my upper back, face and upper arms that worsened around the time I put on the weight. The only other woman in the family with hair pattern is my sister with PCOS. The NP did a test of testosterone levels and they were high, though all other hormone levels were normal. Because my periods were so close together, the NP put me on provera to see if it would delay my periods...I took it for five consecutive days during my period, but it did not delay the next one. Though the NP gave me another prescription for provera the Dr. told me that it almost definitely wouldn't work this time around if it hadn't worked before. I would appreciate greatly any help you could offer! I have my first appt with the fertility dr. today. I'm so nervous. Plus, I'm on day 16 on this cycle...the longest I have gone in a couple months, and I'm scared my period will come any minute! I never used to hate and fear my period like this! Becca
