Cyproterone Acetate and Weight Gain?From: Kassy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 Mar 2001 23:26:51 -0600 (CST)
I have found in the last year after much research that I have PCOS, though I don't think that I am your classic PCOS patient. I am only about 10 pounds over weight, but can gain much more then that within a pin drop. I am an athlete and constantly dieting to try and keep my weight under control. I've gone to an endo that was very less then helpful and seemed to constantly condradict my knowledge and her own occasionally. Her attitude was that it was a way of life and genetics and that it's something i would just have to deal with. She prescribed for me this Cyproterone Acetate and said that it might increase my appetite, therefore gaining weight. Not having much confidence in her capabilities I would like to know if there is much truth behind this. Im supposed to only take a dose of 25 mg daily for 10 day cycles and was wondering if anyone out there has experienced weight gain from taking it, or have even heard about it? Im 16 years old and have only had 2 periods in the last 13 months. I have the dark facial hair growth and severe acne since i was 7 (which i have toned down some from being on Accutane for 7 months but is still very present). I have the dark skin around the nape of my neck and many weight gain problems which seems to be all situated around the mid-section (apple shaped as opposed to the pear shape) I think what I'm really trying to find out also is just other suggestions/options. I'm having a difficult time coping and get very depressed, i feel like i've come up against a wall and would like some second opinions. Anything you might have would be very helpful. Thanks, Kassy
