Re: Avandia vs. MetforminFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 28 Mar 2001 12:25:50 -0600 (CST)
>So yes Glitazones do work and you can get pregnant on them without clomid, but once your pregnant you have a lot of worries about how having PCOS will affect your pregnancy.< I recently saw a perinatologist (maternal-fetal medicine; very high risk OB) at the request of my RE. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that although I am on Actos (30 mg), I would be permitted to remain on it, should I get pg. The only thing (and I take a lot of stuff, including a steroidal inhaler for asthma) I wouldn't be allowed to continue was spironolactone, but I knew of its potential for birth defects in male babies, so that wasn't surprising at all. This dr. professed to be very conservative, but adheres to a policy of "although there might be a small risk to a baby in utero, it's likely worse for that child to have a mother whose hormones work to [essentially] kill it or who can't breathe." Anyhow, you might want to press the issue with your RE. I'm still surprised, but I have an inkling that the last time I miscarried, it was due to the insulin resistance and the whacko hormones in my system.
