>Could this be why so many people (including myself) have such a problem with Metformin? My body is REALLY sensitive to generics. They ALWAYS seem to cause me a problem.< Nope. There is no company marketing met; the name met is short for Metformin HCl, which is THE COMPOUND. The only company producing met in any form is Bristol-Meyers Squibb, and their brand name is Glucophage. I don't know when their patent runs out, but when it does, then another (or possible multiple others) company will begin making a true generic of Glucophage. Incidentally, a generic is ABSOLUTELY THE SAME MEDICATION as a name brand--the difference is in the inert ingredients which make up the medication. For example, when you buy Wal Mart's generic of Tylenol (acetomenaphine), it's is the EXACT SAME AMOUNT of acetomenaphine as Tylenol. But the other stuff that makes up the actual pill may be slightly different. Same goes for any liquids, like Benadryl liquid or Triaminic. The compounds are the exact same as the name brand, but some of the ingredients (or colours or something else) are slightly different than the name-brand drug. My husband has been in pharmaceutical research for 6 yrs now and works constantly and consistently with new drugs (compounds) and the generics that come along.
