Re: PrometriumFrom: Dona (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 25 Mar 2001 13:30:56 -0600 (CST)
HI Alexandra, What is your Doctor prescribing Prometrium for? I understand that it is a natural progesterone that is usually givin in combination with estrogen as hormone replacement therapy in post manuapausal(SP) woman. Progestins alone are usually givin to bring on periods (Provera) or used for birth control because they can cause you to stop ovulating but there is always a small possibuility of pregnancy in low dosages of progesterone especially if you are deficiant.Progestins are also givin in suppository form to help prevent misscarriages in woman who have low progeterone. I have experienced dizzyness and nausia when I have takin provera to bring on a period. For more info on this drug you can look it up at Onhealth.com they have a listing of uses and side affects there. Also talk to your doctor about what to expect. Hope I helped,Dona
