Hi Allison, It is fine if the endocrinologist is sympathetic and listens to you but even better if he/she would treat your disease not your symptoms (Meriodia for weight, Spironolactone for hirsutism, Atenolol for high BP, salt for taste, pepper for spice etc...) If you have PCOS you need somebody who understands the condition. At the core of the problem is insuline resistence (IR). IR causes high insulin levels in your system leading to androgen overproduction in the follicles (ovaries). This in turn causes weight gain (on the waist), male type hair growth, balding, hypertension and also anovulation (long, irregular cycles, prolonged bleeding, infertility). In short: you need only one medicine for your PCOS and it is metformin plus levoxyl for hypothyroidism. To correct your medication further: metformin should be taken evenly: that is one dose with breakfast and another with dinner or a third with lunch, but taking 1500 mg once in the evening makes little sense for me. Discuss these suggestion with him, or look for second opinion Sam (Ob/Gyn, RE)
