Re: Has anyone heard of taking Met. when you're NOT insulin-resistant??...(m)From: Joan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 14 Mar 2001 17:32:43 -0600 (CST)
Yes, women who do not fit the definition of IR are being treated with Met. One thing to note is that the there is not one universal standard for determining IR-the cut-off varies from one Dr. to another. The logic behind treating people who are not IR,as I understand it, is that some women may have 'normal' insulin levels but their ovaries are particularly sensitive to insulin, so even a 'normal' amount might contribute to hormonal imbalances. If you post your question at the Inciid PCOS board (link below), I bet you'll get some more specific info. good luck. I understand Met can also make a difference for those who aren't IR. Alos, it is not unusual for PCOSers to be unresponsive to clomid. Inciid site http://www.inciid.org/cgi-brd/nph-showboard.pl/66
