Hi Maria!

First, I want to give you a bit of hope. My first child was conceived with clomid too. She was born in December 1984. My second baby was born in July of 1993, a miracle of much prayer, tears, and the fertility drugs Pergonal and Metrodin. (Pergonal was the one always in the papers because of the multiple births.) So....even though you've got PCOS, it doesn't necessarily mean you have no hope of having more children.

The second bit of hope is the fact that doctors are doing more study and finding new things about PCOS nowdays. I think part of this is because we women have banded together and demand to be heard and taken seriously. We also share information with each other as well as encourage each other on these online forums. There are still far too many doctors who don't have a clue what to do about PCOS and there are even those who still think it's all in our heads or just that we need to lose weight.

In the early-mid 1990's, the insulin link was discovered. I know of a few women who have become pregnant after taking insulin sensitizing medications. They had taken the powerful fertility drugs before that, without any luck, but when they went on the insulin sensitizing meds, they started cycling regularly and were able to conceive! I often wonder if maybe I would have been spared some of the heartache I went thru during my second bout of infertility, had this link been known back then.

For the excess testosterone, many women take spironolactone or aldactone (one is a generic name, but I can never remember which). Basically, my doctor described it as binding with the excess testosterone and flushing it out of your system. Many of us have noticed no new facial hair growth. (What is already there will most likely still grow, but it may not be as dark and as coarse.) I also noticed that my leg hairs no longer grew two per follicle, were finer, lighter in color, and less coarse than before. The same was noticed on the hair on my stomach and abdomen.

You may also want to have your thyroid checked. This is just to rule out any possibility that some of these symptoms could be caused by a problem there.

Oh......and I was 24 when my daughter was born....and 33 when my son was born. So, don't give up hope. My prayers are with you.

Hugs,

Shelley spryte@dnsonline.net
