Re: Cost of Spiralactone and alternatives that will do the same job or cheaper genericFrom: Sue (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 10 Mar 2001 10:55:44 -0600 (CST)

Does anyone know of something else that I can take for the facial hair and acne[?] Or is there a generic form of the drug[?] Appreciate feedback!!!!< You should not have to pay $25 for spironolactone. That is the generic form of Aldactone, and when mine is filled, the price the insurance company pays is somewhere in the $17 range. That's in addition to my $10 copay. So the total cost ought to be about $30 (roughly), and if your insurance pays 70%, they should be paying about $21 of that cost, leaving you with $9. You should talk to your dr and make sure you are on the generic (and not the name brand of Aldactone), and if you are already on the generic, call the insurance co. to see if there are pharmacies around that will fill it cheaper (they would have this info) or if they have a mail order part to your plan where you can get a 3 mos. supply for one copay (mine is $10 for 3 mos. worth of drugs, but you have to mail away your Rx, so it takes some planning to make sure you don't run out of meds).
