I was so excited because, the glucophage has worked great for me, except the taking it three times a day is really tough for me to keep up with. I posted on the list hoping someone would have more info, and I also searched the web (including the glucophage site put out by the manufacturer), and couldn't find any more info. Imagine my suprise when last week's TV Guide had a three page advertisement for glucophage XR. I am so excited, I tore the page out of my TV Guide and I made an appointment with my RE for the 19th. According to the add, it is the same medication, but just in an extended release formulation so you only have to take it once a day (YIPEE!). I'll let you know how it goes with my doctor, I'm going to ask him to change my prescription.

Hi Cyrilla, I had my check-up with my endo about 3 weeks ago and he changed my glucophage to the glucophage XR. I haven't noticed any differences between it and the regular glucophage, but I LOVE only having to take it once a day. I had a hard time remembering to take my morning dose on the other. (I was on 1000mg 2x a day. Now I take 2000 mg once a day with the XR.)The only drawback, which is really nothing, is having to swallow 4 horse pills instead of just two. LOL

Just to update everyone, the glucophage is working for me.My severe mood swings are practially gone (much to my husbands delight...lol). My hair loss has slowed. I am no longer hot all the time. And, I had my first period in 7 years in November (3 months after beginning the medication). I had a second period at the end of December into January. Another in February. And started my 4th period today. This time it was exactly 28 days from the last one. :))))) I never thought I would see regular periods again. I hate the cramping and stuff, but am more than willing to put up with it if I can become a healthy woman again.

My husband and I had resigned ourselves to the fact that kids were totally out of the question. I am cautious still but it is nice now to actually think it could happen. If it does, then great and if not, then at least I am getting healthy again.

God Bless you in your struggles, Sally Coultas
