Re: At a loss..From: anonymous@obgyn.net ("anonymous@obgyn.net")Wed, 7 Mar 2001 10:11:41 -0500
Awww...Kristie! *HUG* My heart goes out to you. Most of us can understand your pain and frustration. PCOS doesn't always have exact symptoms...that's why so many doctors still think it's "in your head". The glucophage might help you lose weight. It doesn't always work for everyone, but I lost about 50 pounds the first year I was on it, and previously all attempts at dieting seriously and following daily excersize only produced a 15 pound loss at most....which was regained and doubled within a couple weeks if I stopped doing them. You son is four.....kids aren't sensitive to how their words can hurt us. My son is 7 and has informed me I'm BORING. "Dad's house it's WHEE WHEE WHEE WHEE, but YOUR house is BORING BORING BORING". It hurt....but I realize I make him clean up his messes and do his homework. Your son might possibly realize that you aren't happy with your looks and maybe he felt that was what you wanted to hear. Their minds don't quite work like ours do. A lot of us suffer depression. It's almost natural when society looks at us like we're rejects and freaks. Well, I've found the ladies on my PCOS lists to be very intelligent, fun, interesting, beautiful (I've met several of them in person in my Indiana group), and caring women! It seems that in the face of such adversity, these women have not only survived, but they've thrived and are so much more interesting and caring than those blessed with perfect looks, health, and bodies....pehaps because we understand what it's like to be less than perfect. If you're not already taking something for depression, you might want to speak to your doctor about it. If you are, perhaps it's not strong enough or that particular med isn't effective for you. Another little lesson I've learned in the past four years is to develop a strong self image of myself to carry in my mind This woman is who you believe yourself to be, not who others think you are or who you see in your mirror. Close your eyes and put a lot of thought into it. What qualities do you most admire in others? Chances are, you've got them yourself! Create this image so that you see "her" clearly......the woman you are in your soul. My image is very strong....a few guys have told me it's almost scarey because the woman is so strong....but I identify with this beautiful strong woman in my heart and soul. I can't always see her clearly, when I'm suffering my deeper depressions, but much of the time I can call upon this image and realize that *I* know who *I* am.....and I really like ME! Hope this will help you, Kristie!
