Aslihan,

Your doctor MAY be right about the pain being a side effect of the met. It could be that your ovary is trying to ovulate .... trying to "work" like it's supposed to. But....it COULD be something more. I would keep a close watch of the pain If it gets steadily worse, you feel bloated, notice your abdomen swelling, or any of these, you might wish to get a second opinion....right away! I don't want to scare you, but I am a firm believer in women having a kind of intuition about their bodies. (One Gynecologist wrote some books in the 1970's called "It's Your Body" and "Listen to Your Body"....too bad it's not REQUIRED reading for all doctors!) If you feel something just isn't right, chances are, you could be right. Even if you go thru the steps of seeing a doctor and tests only to find it's nothing, it still is better than ignoring something just because some doctor says it's more or less all in your head.

My own experience from 4 years ago was after I had lost about 50 pounds after being on Met for a year and a half. I had a "fullness" in my abdomen. I thought it was similar to the pain I've had with urinary tract infections, so I went to a doctor. He said it seemed to possibly be that, gave me medicine and sent me home. I went out to the sand dunes along Lake Michigan's south shore to watch a beautiful sunset. The next morning, I woke up and felt somewhat worse. I thought "if I don't feel better by the time I'm dressed for work, I'll go get checked again". Well, it's a good thing I listened to my body....I went to the emergency room and by the time we realized I needed surgery to fix a burst ovarian cyst which was causing internal bleeding, I was in a LOT of pain even on an IV with painkiller. It had most likely begun leaking the previous day. I was fortunate. The surgery went well, my ovaries were both saved, and I recovered...although it took over a month before I could take care of myself and my two kids (I was separated at that point but Mom and Dad were able to come stay with us for a month).

I guess what I want to stress is DO NOT PANIC, but DO keep track of what your intuition tells you. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! If you still have doubts.... and yes, that's plenty to scare even the bravest of us... then by all means, see a doctor again!

I hope you'll feel better soon.

Hugs,

Shelley spryte@dnsonline.net
