Success with Metformin - don't give up!

This is just a general message for all you ladies going thru the same thing I have been for the last 7 months. As difficult as it maybe to get that pill in your mouth knowing the side effects you will get -- don't stop. It is sooo worth it. Last year my husband and I tried our 1st. attempt at IVF. Needless to say it failed. After that attempt my RE discovered I had PCOS. I had never heard of it before and started the medication right away and digging for information. I have been on the Met. since last August. When it came time this past January for us to try attempt #2 I was really scared. I was afraid the met. wasn't working or that I wasn't on the right dosage. After a long discussion with my RE we went ahead with attempt #2.

I had my egg retrieval done last Sunday. Sonograms leading to the retrieval showed that I had 25-30 follicals on each side. I felt like I was carrying around 2 bowling balls. When they did the retrieval they were able to get 20, yes, 20 eggs. 17 of them fertilized with 1 of them being abnormal. When I went back in on Wednesday for the Embryo transfer all of the eggs were of great quality. My RE was thrilled (and so were we). He said that he has seen PCOS women do well with the Met. but he only expected to get 2-3 good quality eggs not 15.

I guess I'm "getting a load off my chest" by telling all you ladies, but I also want women to know that even if you don't feel so great (and most times I didn't) the Met. really does work.

I'd also like to thank all of you for being the PCOS friends that you are. You were of great help these past few months.

Take Care

Mary
