General endocrine disorders and PCOSFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 16 Feb 2001 12:38:34 -0600 (CST)
I am glad to know that there is a support of women out there for PCOS. I was never formally diagnosed with this disorder, but I had enough of the symptoms that I was certain I had the disorder. The first symptom was the weight gain that started in my mid-twenties. The GYN at that time said, "just push yourself away from the table". I was not eating any more than I had been previously. The pounds poured on, 40 a year for the next 5 years(I started at 125lbs.) Then my low thyroid was finally diagnosed and I was started on thyroid replacement. 3 years later (I was still over 200lbs), and I was diagnosed with diabetes Type II. Finally, I ended up with ruptured ovarian cysts, and the beginnings of ovarian cancer in one of my ovaries. I just want everyone to understand and realize that left untreated, PCOS can possibly become very life threatening, especially if there is a family history of ovarian cancer in your family(there was none in mine)
